Putting out a zine, any zine, is a political act. Whether it's the high school kid who does a zine about Sloan, or the collective's newsletter advocating environmental awareness, both are reclaiming what was essentially theirs to begin with."

This year was the first year that i have ever heard of let alone created a zine. to put out and publish a zine you must be really passionate about a certain subject in order to base a mini-magazine on it, so of course it is seen as political act. If you are going to put your money into publishing something of course you ar etrying to prove a point or to show the population what your views are. My zine that created with my group was that of a "mens only zine" basically it was about subject restricted to what men do. Although it was a high school project i believe it can be seen as a political statement, because it was our parody of men's magazine that do exist such as Maxim and stuff. Although it was not meant to be seen or viewed intitially as political views, it may have turned out that way because of the subject matter and how we decided to create our zine as a spin off sort of thing from actual magazines.

Time for some creative writing, J-Students! In the style of a cooking recipe, you will concoct a recipe for "Success as a Mary Ward Student." Supporting artwork encouraged. The tastiest recipes will be published in the Mary Ward Planet. Due November 17th.

This is my final year at Mary Ward and i can say that my high school career here at our self directed learning centre has been pretty successful. I have never failed a course and only went to summer school once for gr.10 math, but i am trecherous at math so it does not count. Let me tell you this and you can ask my friends that have been around me for the past four years, i never do work at school. My day at school usually consits of talking to friends, looking at my agenda, and doing whatever i want..... sorta.........although it may not seem like the best strategy for this school i got by every year like this, while taking all university or academic courses. The thing for me was that i did homework at home for about an hour or two almsot every single day and i was fine. For those people and teachers that say you need to work 4-6 hours a day at home, that is complete B.S. If you work hard at home and do what you have to do the only thing you need for a recipe to be successful at ward is patience and determination. Becaue without either of these qualities i would drive myself crazy over the work load i had which was never really that high, becasue i did what i had to do at home, while still having fun at school.

Some animation purists say that computer animation, like that of Pixar, is cold and too rendered. Some modern animators believe that hand animation is dead because it is too time-consuming and labour-intensive. Compare and contrast traditional hand animation to computer animation using examples that you are familiar with. What do you prefer and why?

I do believe that the statement that "hand animation is dead" is true. How rarely will you ever see a modern movie or television show for that matter which is hand animated. I beleive that hand animated shows are the more enjoyable animations compared to CG animation. If you look at television the shows that are successful and have been around for a while are hand animated. Take a look at Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park, you could say that these shows are the msot successful animated series' and all of them are hand animated, except South Park which is created with construction paper cut outs. I beleive that Cg animation really takes away from the art form and the talent. You look at the work put in and the talent used in both examples of animation, which one actually deserves to be credited as great. Maybe I agree am on the side of hand animation, because that is what a grew up loving, shortly after I was born the CG animation really started to become popular and that is when i stopped watching cartoons. I have to say that i sitll do watch cartoon, but only those that i grew up watching like looney-toon, spiderman, batman, the simpsons, family guy, and south park.

REPORTERS IN THE LINE OF FIRE!
Journal Entry Question #10 for Journalism

Is it worth risking your own life, in order to get the scoop? That is the question at hand. Some people will put their lives at risk to get the right and proper side to a story. I am on the fence for this one, because it really depends on what kind of a person it is. Do they have a lot to lose in case anything does go wrong? Or do they simply live for work? Some people need a certain rush in their lives so that they can focus and work efficiently. So in that case they will do whatever it takes to get the right story. People with alot to lose, such as a family will more likely not take the risk to endanger themselves, but people that tend to have less to sacrifice, will probably go to furhter extremes. Although i do not agree with sacrificing your life for your job, somebody has to do it, or else we would never know the true story and I am thankful for those who do so. Maybe that is a reason why they do it, so that everyone will know the truth.

Coming from someone who plays video games quite a bit, i do think that the Wii is all hype. Though it has a great marketing strategy, which is where their sales are coming from. The bottom line is that people are buying Nintendo Wii's because of the physical involvement in the games. Sure it is giving people a hope, in that if you play that you will eventually lose weight, but just how long do you have to play for? Although the concept of weight loss from playing a video game may seem farfetched, the Wii's capabilites are what make it an enjoyable gaming console to play.
